Alexander College Course

October 9- 24, 2007

Alexander College is offering a 17 day course in October of 2007 for all those interested in in-depth study of Jesus as prophet, sage, and messiah. This course will take you off the beaten path, with an emphasis of study in the Galilee, where Jesus did the majority of his teaching. Come join us this fall in Israel for a unique experience that promises to have a long lasting impact on your academic and spiritual life.

Tuesday, Oct. 9 Day 1: Arrival: Check In
     Orientation and Introductions in Jerusalem. Overnight at Christ Church in the Old City, Jerusalem.

Wednesday, Oct. 10 Day 2: Mt. Carmel
     Lecture: The Geography and History of Galilee
     Field Trip: Afternoon walk to Muhraqa: Elijah on Mt Carmel
     Discussion: Jesus and his Bible
     Overnight: Nazareth

Thursday, Oct. 11 Day 3: Lower Galilee
     Field Trip: Jezreel, Mehola, Shulam and Nain
     Lecture: Elijah and Elisha in the Life of Jesus
     Overnight: Nazareth

Friday, Oct. 12 Day 4: Lower Galilee
     Lecture: Rabbi Yehuda Hanassi and the Sages
     Field Trip: Bet Shearim, Arraba and Yodfat
     Discussion: The importance of Josephus for understanding New Testament history
     Overnight: Nazareth

Saturday, Oct. 13 Day 5: Lower and Upper Galilee
     Field Trip: Nazareth and the Bar Am synagogue
     Lecture: The Languages of Jesus
     Discussion: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me"
     Overnight: Overnight: Sea of Galilee area

Sunday, Oct. 14 Day 6: The Lake of Genneseret
     Field Trip: Khorazin, Arbel and Capernaum
     Lecture: A Sage and His Disciples
     Worship: Communion by the Sea of Galilee
     Overnight: Sea of Galilee area

Monday, Oct. 15 Day 7: Golan
      Field Trip: Banias, Katzrin, Mount Hermon area: Gamla
      Lecture: Daily life in New Testament Times
      Overnight: Sea of Galilee area

Tuesday, Oct. 16 Day 8: The Lake of Genneseret
     Discussion: The Healing Ministry of Jesus
     Field Trip: Genneseret and the "Other Side"
     Overnight: Sea of Galilee area

Wednesday, Oct. 17 Day 9: Free Day for relaxation and study in Galilee.

      Overnight: Sea of Galilee area

Thursday, Oct. 18 Day 10: Bethany beyond the Jordan
     Field Trip: Jordan River, Jericho, Qumran
     Lecture: Jesus, John and Qumran
     Overnight: Qumran area

Friday, Oct. 19 Day 11: The Wilderness of Judea
     Field Trip: Walk to Caves 1 & 12 and swim in Dead Sea
     Evening: Synagogue attendance and sabbath meal
     Overnight: Jerusalem

Saturday, Oct. 20 Day 12: Jerusalem
     Lecture: Jesus and Jerusalem
     Field Trip: Tower of David Museum and Mount of Olives
     Lecture: Angels in Jewish Literature of the Second Temple Period.
     Overnight: Jerusalem

Sunday, Oct. 21 Day 13: Jerusalem
     Morning Worship at Christ Church
      Lecture: Pilgrimage in the Second Temple Period
     Field Trip: Hulda Gates, Jewish Quarter, Western Wall Tunnels
     Overnight: Jerusalem

Monday, Oct. 22 Day 14: Jerusalem
     Lecture: Romans, Saducees, Pharisees and the Death of Jesus.
     Field Trip: Temple Mount, Herodian Mansions, The Via Dolorosa, Church of the Resurrection
     Evening: Passover Seder
     Overnight: Jerusalem

Tuesday, Oct. 23 Day 15: Jerusalem
     Field Trip: Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum, Shrine of the Book and Bethlehem.
     Discussion: The Birth of the Messiah
     Overnight: Jerusalem

Wednesday, Oct. 24 Day 16: Free Day.
     (Entrance fees for this day not included)
     Overnight: Jerusalem

Thursday, Oct. 25 Day 17: Departure
Participants are welcome to opt for an extension to the program, to be arranged with the director of Alexander College.

Land price: $1870

Itinerary and accommodation may be subject to change.

INCLUDED: Half-board, twin share accommodation; Bus; Guide; Lecturers; Portage; Tips for guide, hotels and driver; Entrance fees unless otherwise stated.

NOT INCLUDED: Flights, Travel insurance (which is mandatory). Lunches and snacks; Transfers from and to the airport for individuals.
